Ultrasonography

Ultrasound imaging provides a non-invasive way to examine internal organs and investigate a variety of medical conditions. This advanced diagnostic tool helps us gain valuable insights into your pet’s health and guide treatment decisions.

At Leeming Vet, ultrasonography is an important part of our diagnostic capabilities, allowing us to look inside the body in real time without the need for surgery or invasive procedures. It is commonly used alongside physical examinations, blood tests, and X-rays to build a more complete understanding of your pet’s condition.

Ultrasound is particularly useful for assessing soft tissue structures such as the liver, kidneys, bladder, spleen, and gastrointestinal tract. It can help identify a wide range of conditions, including inflammation, fluid accumulation, masses, and changes in organ structure. In some cases, it may also be used to guide procedures such as sample collection, improving accuracy and safety.

The procedure is gentle and generally well tolerated by pets. In most cases, no sedation is required, although some pets may benefit from mild calming if they are anxious or uncomfortable. A small area of fur is clipped to allow clear contact with the ultrasound probe, and a special gel is used to produce high-quality images.

One of the key advantages of ultrasound is that it allows us to observe organ function in real time, providing dynamic information that cannot be seen on static imaging alone. This helps us make more informed decisions about diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care.

Our team will always take the time to explain findings clearly and discuss next steps with you, so you feel informed and supported throughout the process.

As a family owned and locally operated veterinary clinic, we are committed to using modern diagnostic tools like ultrasonography to provide accurate, compassionate care for pets in our community.
